The 'Franklin Mint'
Mon Jul 19, 2021 5:36 pm
The Franklin Mint U.S. was a principal focus for enthusiastic hordes of coin and medal collectors for over four decades.
The Mint at its zenith - 1970s and 1980s, became the largest privately-owned mint in the world. Paving the way for the myriad collections of non-circulating legal tender commemorative coins issued in recent decades.
It also leveraged modern Numismatics towards the model of legal tender coins being issued by private mints on behalf of other countries.
An excellent, interesting article about an iconic company, which helped pave the way for many collectors & companies in the coin and medal world... Link below

Mervs68, you have brought back quite a few memories there! Franklin Mint did so much more, including porcelain figurines and heritage dolls that my mother was very taken with. Nobody else in the family shared her taste so the local charity shop had them all eventually. We never ventured into silver though ...

Lovely - much more to my taste than porcelain dolls. My mother wouldn't have agreed though.
I hope you have a robust sense of humour - you'll probably need it with Merv and I. We can take it too, though!
Good to greet a new member.

I remember my Dad had a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost model from Franklin Mint that my Mum had bought for him.
My Mum had many of the plate collections from them too...

The Franklin Mint produced a lot of tat over the years from plates, miniature cars and dolls but they did have a serious side and produced commemorative proofs silver coins for many Countries and I have collected several of the Belize proof .925 Silver Coin sets for about £50 a set which is near the scrap value of the coins.

They are very nice, lovely simple designs, and do show the more serious side of the Mint. Still, the plates made a nice crash as they went into the skip, and I'm sure we all love things that our nearest and dearest can't wait to be shot of.

The Cat's Mother. Thanks you made me chuckle. Those plates treasured heirlooms of a bygone era can be purchased from ebay for far less they the originally sold for.

I thought they were giving them away with boxes of breakfast cereal.
But yes, they were originally bought as precious pieces. I'm sure I have many treasures that will be sent to either a charity shop or landfill.
