Please can I have some advice?
Mon Mar 06, 2023 12:18 pm
Hi folks. Please can I ask for some advice? A little while ago, I bought a silver proof coin from the Royal Mint. Long story short… I broke the capsule. I replaced it with a good quality one. The replacement doesn’t have the “lip” that rests nicely on the inner casing of the box (badly worded, but I hope you know what I mean). Question - if I ever wanted to sell the coin, would the non-RM capsule devalue it? Thank you team!

I don’t think so. Some of my 2 Oz RM beastie coin caps have cracked and I replaced them with generic ones. And when I buy 2nd hand coins I often replace the capsules. The condition of the coin, especially a proof, is the most important. I see the capsule as a disposable layer of protection.

All sorted now. I am getting a replacement from a nice chappie on one of the Facebook bullion groups I belong to. Thanks for your input!
