2020 Royal Mint Annual BU 13 Coin Set
Mon Jul 01, 2024 2:18 pm
Just wondering what members think about this set as it includes the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Team GB 50p?
My personal opinion (possibly not highly regarded) is that this particular year set will appreciate in value over time, as the 2020 Olympics were cancelled/postponed until 2021 due to the covid Pandemic. As far as I am aware, please correct me if I'm wrong, this particular 50p was never issued for circulation which surely adds to the coin set's collectibility?
It's not a rare set, but there again over (I believe) a quarter of a million Kew Gardens 50p's were produced for circulation and look what happened to them!

I dont know enough about 50p's I have plenty of them and kept the collectable ones only. But that said am in the process of selling off all of them because I no longer collect basic coins. I just have been focusing on bullion instead.
However if something is in my change I keep it.

I quite often check my 50p coins given in change and any special designs, I generally keep as you don't very often come across them. I do the same with the many different £2 coin designs too.

I have BAGS of £2 coins that are normal and have all the designs on... I dont put them in the bank.. I should but I keep all the change in the house. LOL . Then I package them up for the bank ONE DAY. LOLGee Tee wrote:I quite often check my 50p coins given in change and any special designs, I generally keep as you don't very often come across them. Ha ha,
The last time I took loads of standard 50p's and £2 coins to the bank, they told me that I could only hand over a certain amount in change, so when you next visit your bank... if there is still a branch that's open... I suggest you ask how much you can deposit or change to notes.... Just a suggestion.

The other thing to remember is that they will only accept the change in their bank plastic coin bags!
This is because they can't be bothered to count it as it's easier just to weigh the bags!

My local branch has a machine that you pour the coins into and it weighs/counts them and credits your account. Before that, for as long as I can remember, they always weighed the coin bags.

I can't get into non silver coins. Plus you are correct, they make far too many. The US Mint started with the ATB circulated & commemorative and state quarters and now there are hundreds of them.
Just plain annoying!
