Happy Christmas and a wonderful 2025 to all our members and their families. It's been a lot of fun interacting with you all, and winding Jon up.
I got this snap of Rudolph before he put his red nose on and started on his rounds.

And a belated season's greeting from Indonesia where I've just got my computer set up.

Happy Saturnalia all!

So I thought I'd buy the family some local gold for Christmas.  Nothing elaborate, just a few small fractional bars, which is really all my budget stretches to at the moment.  I had assumed that this process would consist of going into a shop and buying some gold.

Not even close.

Step 1: Go to the Antam shop (actually just around the corner from a place I stayed a couple of years ago)
Step 2: Discover the shop is closed for renovations.
Step 3: Chase around Jakarta to find an Antam shop that's actually open.
Step 4: Wait for ages in a queue located in a gigantic (30 acres floor area) shopping mall until the staff actually show up with the gold.
Step 5: Finally order the gold.
Step 6: Discover they don't take cards and we have to make a bank transfer.
Step 7: Find ATMs and pull out 10 million rupiah in cash (at a usurous markup), then deposit it in my wife's account.
Step 8: Make the bank transfer.
Step 9: Collect the gold.
Step 10: Rush back to the hotel to check out as the process has taken all morning.

Apparently Indonesian folk tend to look sideways at overseas gold like PAMP or Perth Mint as the market is flooded with fakes, so we're sticking with the local product for my better half's gold reserve.

We also got the munchkins their first gold.

Hi @monkey , Happy New Year to you too.
Not much point in an early night with a 01.00 feed due - just stay up and eat chocolate until sprog is fed and then go to bed.
I have heard, but make no assertions as to accuracy, that if the feeder (got to be careful with terminology these days) has been on the gin for a few hours prior to the feed then the baby will sleep like, well, a baby for the rest of the night. NB this method is almost certainly not approved of by any responsible and reputable parenting organisation, including Social Services.
