Its all about the small details in life. LOL

On Monday morning I woke up to an almighty screeching sound in the house. Followed by a Bang sound and what could only be described as a voice from hell. Thats right I am talking about my wife! Now before I get pounced on by anyone please read on. My eldest son had let our cat out and the weather was horrible. As he is growing and well dumb !!! we all know teenagers can become absent minded and their focus goes rather quickly when it is not something like food. LOL Anyway back to the story. He had heard our cat making lots of noise outside and as the weather was horrible decided to just open the door without checking. Also he left the other door open which acts as a safeguard just in case. And low and behold our cat proudly brings in a un injured mouse to play with.
So that accounts for the screaming on my wifes behalf. The banging was the kitchen door as she must have flown towards. Great for cardio I think, I might just buy a few and let them out from time to time. LOL
She proceeded to yell at my son, in a blind fear and panic. LOL sorry cant help myself here. So she had him gather all items from our kitchen dinning area, that she needed for the day so she could leave the house via the front door.
Long story short she gave me permission and asked me to dispatch the dang thing if I could. But I promised my son that I would not... Sitting here doing the video and watching the little thing only just a couple of inches from me and not taking the shot was annoying.. but a promise to my boy was a promise I kept.
Both boys came home and as the little field mouse was contained and I knew where it was ... they were able to gather it in a box and then release it at the FAR end of our garden safely and unharmed. To much the delight of my wife, but also to me as I again had hope they could do it.
Anyway I told this story to a couple of people at the time.. no doubt it will make them laugh again, as I was a prisoner in my own home so to speak on Monday.
LOL
Enjoy.
Jon

It was a good story @Admin , the only loser seems to have been the poor cat who lost her breakfast treat.
I always found the easiest way to deal with a live mouse was to corner it and then grab it by the tail and drop it into a bucket before it could stretch upwards and bite. I only had to do this a very few times as, obviously, best of all is not to let the cat in with anything in its mouth, but you have to remember to look before opening the door wide enough to admit cat and ignore the yowling. If it does get in, close internal doors and chase cat out again. Cat can usually be persuaded to drop mouse outside in exchange for a treat, or eat the mouse outside.
Fortunately our ace hunter, Raffles, never brought live rats home. He killed them first and left the bodies on the path by the door for us to admire. Same with squirrels. The duck he brought back was very much alive, but he dropped it and it was last seen on the pond where cat couldn't get it. His piece de resistance was a mouse still in the trap (ready meal?), which he had liberated from the neighbour's garage. We de-liberated it and disposed of the body. While we were doing that Raffles went back to the garage and returned with another mouse/trap combo, which we also stole from him. The traps went back to the neighbour.

What an entertaining story. We have one cat who seems to eat everything before bringing it into the house. We did have two, and lat the last house, I came down one morning to find one of the cat staring up at the ceiling corner of the bathroom.
When I turned the light on, to my surprise I saw a bat huddled in the corner! The only way I found to get that out was to close the door, open the top of the window and shepherd it with a towel after making it take flight round the room!
It found the open window, rested on the frame for a few moments while making an assessment of out side, then took off.
I then looked down to see a very annoyed moggie wondering why I had set her dinner loose!

@The Cat's Mother I am laughing, we had ducks too, sadly they were dead already at the back door. Most of the time she will have finished them off and we are only left with a headless X ... be it a mouse, bird or other. And I say other because there was once a fish! and I think I knew where it came from..... so I was embarrassed.

You'd have loved our cats around baby rabbit season. They would bring them in to show us (usually still alive) and look ever so pleased with themselves. On a really good day they'd eat all of it bar the caecum and then leave it under my desk for me to step in.
They were lovely, sweet cuddly pussycats though.

One day we adopted one of the little bunnies our cats brought in. It ate quite a lot of the carpet in the sitting room and then decided it liked the look of the cord on the lamp. We didn't adopt any more bunnies after that.

Jointed, slathered in mustard and casseroled with potatoes, carrots and celery. Yum!

Ironically I am not a fan. The only 2 things I hunted that I kept and didnt pass onto the butchers or friends were venison and pheasants. YuM

Rabbits are very bony, and the wild ones taste very gamey - farmed ones are fine though. Pheasants don't have much meat on them, and can dry up very quickly unless casseroled, so I tend to think they're more trouble than they're worth. I'm with you on venison though. Double Yum.

I have had rabbit one or twice, but it was casseroled.
As for Venison, the last time I ate it was in Gore, where I could stuff myself stupid on a venison stew with plum sauce. That cost less than 10 quid, and I remember thinking 'only in New Zealand.' It was rather nice, though. I haven't made a venison roast in ages.

Pheasants I cook in a Roasting dish with seasoning and bacon over the top.. It does not have natural fat so you need to really add it...
Venison ... oooh I love cooking steaks and making a venison salad or pasta dish... I cook the venison in steaks which don't need a lot of time.. Just the right ingredients. Like butter and red wine and garlic.. yummmmm
I am also a huge seafood fan.. but I dont go plinking them. LOL Back home I used to collect mussels off the rocks. and clams.. we even would set a trap in the morning for a lobster or two. oooh I miss those days.
