A truly remarkable person, @Admin. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win a Nobel Prize twice (1903 jointly with her husband Pierre, and 1911), and the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two scientific fields (physics and chemistry). She died of leukaemia, attributed to her work with radioactive materials.
I don't think the image of her on the coin really does her justice, although later photographs of her show that she wasn't someone to be messed with! The coin image looks a bit like Margaret Thatcher - who was also a chemist by training.
