Royal Mint Location

I drove past the royal mint this week while on my travels.

One thing I don’t understand is why did they place it in Llantrisant, Wales!

It’s on the edge of an industrial estate and Llanristant doesn’t have much going for it (respectfully), a big retail park and an old ruined castle in the old town with not much of it left.

It’s over a mile from a railway station, it’s a good few miles from the motorway, it just makes no sense.

So why did they choose this location?
Bring jobs to an area of industrial decline?
Cheap land?

On the tour they tell you it's sat in over 30 acres of ground and it was Wales first minister. That fought to have it there

I believe that Llantrisant is known as the hole with the mint.

easy to get to off the main road,the near by village i hear is pretty
