Ancient counties of England coin set
Wed Aug 03, 2022 4:35 pm
Sadly I missed out on this item at auction today
https://www.warrenandwignall.co.uk/catalogue/lots/F88BCDF04262B5C61A8816D401B5252C32E36BDA63D5167CF819B5C4588DD2A1/2A29640469B1A3702BD4742F312B842A/collectors-sale-lot-307/?d&searchTerm=Birmingham
I think it looks brilliant and something I now regret not bidding higher on (I set my bid at £500 online as I wasn’t able to attend) as it’s a collection I would love to own.
It sold for £600 which is a fair price
Does anyone have this set?
If so, any chance you can share a few pictures of the coins up close?
This is one set I am determined to get my hands on one day.

40% silver... and it reached that.
Well done who ever bought it... I hope they enjoy it.

It’s a rare set, it doesn’t come up for sale often.
A work colleague is after a very rare sovereign coin for his collection, and despite his best efforts it simply doesn’t come up for sale unless at a ridiculously high premium.

Some of the prices on these things are ridiculously high but if you're after date runs and things like that you have no choice but to spend it if you can. I have loads of broken date runs for exactly that reason

I have the exact same issue, date runs with gaps and the gaps simply aren’t worth filling at the asking prices
I have been fortunate on one occasion, I purchased a big job lot of coins from a house clearance and while most of the coins where duplicates to what I had, I did find a few I was after for date runs.

Not many if any auctions tend to sell bullion coins in large numbers
The best one I have used is the Coinery, my friend uses them as they are highly trusted but again they tend to focus on normal coins but do often have some bullion in the monthly auction sale.

There are a few others that have bullion coins from time to time entered into auction such as Warwick & Warwick.

Chinese pandas seem to hold a high premium at the moment, anything pre 1989 goes for a huge premium. The modern stuff not so much.
