New silver VAT Empty New silver VAT

Tue Nov 01, 2022 9:00 pm
Is there anywhere in Europe that still has a lower rate of VAT on silver?

I know Estonia used to have a lower rate but it’s now gone .

From Estonia website -

The VAT exemption of collector coins, including investment purpose silver coins, will be abolished ( 16 (2)1 4) and § 17 (1) 3) of the VAT Act). As a result of the law amendment, the VAT exemption applies only to coins and banknotes, which are customarily used as a means of payment. Investment gold remains to be VAT exempt.

Short answer is no.

The EU has hit hard and is making some companies that have avoided tax stop. The numismatic side is no longer in existence either. Sadly the place to buy silver is in America but the postage and customs fees don't make that viable if you want to follow the rules and not get yourself caught by customs.
Sad

It’s ridiculous that there is VAT on silver at the full rate and nothing on gold.

I agree and am happy as heck that Gold is out of the equation so far...
