Perhaps if I am feeling up to it, I myself might attend one of these.
hmmm Now that would be a fun livestream.

Hi @Gail McG. I would if I wasn't hundreds of miles away - out of curiosity more than anything. I've never been to a coin fair. It will be interesting to hear what you think of it, if you do decide to go

We use to have one 3-4 times a year then the internet took over so it went to once a year then it all stop with COVID

Surprising it was always busy and you learned so much . If you had the interest they had the time and you got to know them l. It was the first time I got to see a 5 pound sovereign and hold it

Is that the one at the racecourse? It's a bit further for me, but I do go to York from time to time. I might have an introduction at Huddersfield first though.

York is MUCH closer to me.
I might have to go there instead of making a 150 mile round trip.

Re: Coin Fair -Huddersfield
On the plus side, one of the two sellers had a selection of some very nice RAM coins and there was a set of bird coins that I loved. Unfortunately, he didn't have a card machine and I didn't have enough cash. I phoned this morning and emailed my details, and am now waiting for him to get back to me. The other seller was really only selling Royal Mint proofs, so I didn't spend much time there.
Obviously, I don't know what the others were selling since they'd flown the coop, but the venue is only about half an hour away, and traffic on Sundays is pretty light, so I might have a look at the fair at the end of August.
Did you go @Gail McG

I have a local market that some times sells coins so it is hit and miss

Yeah it’s the one at the racecourse looks much bigger than the Huddersfield one

I will just have to hope that I will not be in pain on X day or can get someone to come with me and drive.. York is about 40 minutes away and not far but then there is walking around. And no I refuse to use my wheelchair.
So I have to be on my very best day to go.. I really do want to go ..

Re: Coin Fair -Huddersfield
Lots and lots of pre-decimal British coins, and a fair bit of gold. Pretty much all cash sales though, avoiding bank charges is very important. One seller specialised in Royal Mint proofs, but none of his stuff was priced, which is always a bit of a turn off for me. The chap I saw last month, who had a lot of RAM coins wasn't there today. I had a long chat with a chap from the Coinery, which is an auction house that does wish lists. I've emailed one over. I may well go again, but I'll give it a while.

The Cat's Mother wrote:Well, I went - and this time I got there earlier. Given my collecting choices, there wasn't too much to interest me, and I don't know enough about numismatics generally to judge whether something is a bargain or a ripoff, so I didn't get anything this month. I did have a chat with a couple of sellers though, and it was a good drive out over the tops, so not a wasted time at all.

That sounds like an exhilarating outing TCM... Rain and wind included. I went to one numismatics show and couldn't figure out one coin from the other. Just not into it.
