BBC should do advertising and let pay that for it.
I got fed up with repeats and reality TV. Haven't watched it for years

The BBC is making the bosses loads of money, There are far too many services out there in place to alert us to any major disaster or incident. Our phones and air sirens can alert us. We do not need the BBC, It is just money being wasted in my opinion.

They did that emergency mobile phone alert test in April; It worked for most people
For people who didn't get the alert it was a problem with their service providor

Of course, those of us who don't have smartphones didn't get an alert anyway. We're probably dispensible, one way to reduce the calls on emergency supplies is to get rid of 5% of the population. I don't have access to the BBC except their news on my laptop, so anything they put out will pass me by. I know of one air siren locally, the WW2 air raid siren, and it was disabled years ago, so I'm not sure how much good that will be. In any event it wouldn't be capable of telling us which particular disaster was heading our way: fire, flood, little green men, a present from Mr. Putin or just hot weather. I'll just have to expire of surprise.

Sorry, keep assuming everyone has mobile phones these days; The government will need multiple methods of conveying emergency alerts.

I have a mobile phone, but not a smartphone. My phone is a PAYG version, which I bought two years ago with a £10 prepaid credit. There's still £7.50 credit left.

@The Cat's Mother

If every area has kept up with alerts systems.... you should know. I remember the practice drills we did when I was in the ambulance service.

Every EMS vehicle / police/ fire vehicle would be going off.. you will know something is up.
