New Year Guessing Game
Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:39 am
OK, a little bit of fun to kick off the New Year - guess TCM’s occupation. There has been a fair bit of unseemly speculation, so hopefully this will end it.
There are rules, naturally:
1. The game runs for one week, from when I post this on 1st January to midnight GMT on 7th January 2024. Short week? See if I care.
2. Open to all members, who have one (and only one) guess each. I will delete excess entries.
3. Every correct guess will win a (very) small prize. The more correct entries there are, the smaller the prizes are likely to get.
4. There will be a booby prize for the most imaginatively wrong guess.
5. No generic guesses, such as ‘office worker’, ‘scientist’, ‘health worker’. Be specific. I’m not accepting ‘retired’ either.
6. My decision is final. Particularly when assessing entries under Rule 5. However arbitrary, misguided, or biased, it’s final.
I must be mad doing this.

My guess: TCM is a well known author of bodice rippers, actually published under a pseudonym.

Well, the other option was new wave space opera.

A hint - so far, @Silverlocks is in pole position for the booby prize.

No, 'Fifty Shades of Gravy'. A cookbook with a difference.

Right, well, the week is over. I'm not going to dignify the last two posts by @Silverlocks and @Admin with a reply, except to say that eternal haunting would be the least of your worries Jon.
I hope all participants enjoyed the game. There were some very good guesses: I do love books and playing with words, so @Bondie and @Jazz were very intuitive. I'm also fond of animals, especially cats, as my username and avatar indicate, so veterinarian wasn't a bad guess at all @AVG . I'm not sure where dock worker came from @Periodic Table (Steve-dore?). Teacher and School Administrator: obviously my tendency to bossiness has influenced @tray and @Admin . @Silverlocks was clearly making a brazen attempt to win the booby prize, and he has succeeded: although I would say for the record that my one published snippet contained no references to bodices, ripped or otherwise. I'll send out his prize when he's back in the UK. At least nobody outed me as a bounty hunter for HMRC.
It has been very interesting for me seeing what you all think I am, BUT you're all wrong. My secret is safe for another year. Mwa Ha Ha.

All. You mean the seven of you who could be bothered to enter?
I need something to run next New Year, and if I tell you you'd be banned from entering.
