That's why I never wanted children.
@The Cat's Mother I have a dog that poos bigger than a human, also regarding children we’ve looked after 27 placements in the years gone by. That’s a lot of mess

@Mike , you have my undying respect. No Council in it's right mind would trust me and TCF with vulnerable children, but my sister did a stint before she moved and I know how hard it was.

@The Cat's Mother the cynical side of me thinks “I can see why she moved”

To get away from me, you mean? See if I care. She moved to be nearer her daughter. Still only half an hour away, but wrong side of the Pennines.

This is my Dachsund Haley.   She is my heart.  She is only 5 but has an illness called IMHA.  I almost lost her a couple of months ago.  It is a chronic disease that attacks blood vessels and causes Anemia.  She is on new meds now and hopefully is stable.  She is the most loving and gentle little girl.  Family pets - Page 6 20230311

You'll fit in here  @Silvergirl555 . I would say 'Another ruddy dog' but I'd probably be chased up a tree.  Family pets - Page 6 1f638

So I take Haley in the morning to the vets to have her blood drawn once again (she hates it). We will see if her platlet count is up. If not she will need a transfusion. Not fun for either one of us. Keep her in your thoughts, this is so worrying to me.

I looked up her condition, being a retired paramedic I wanted to know what it might be like for a human. It is essentially a auto immune disease which is horrible. I am soo sorry and I am hoping that both of you will be fine.  I know this is not a short fix and we are here if you ever want to talk. I was not aware this can affect cats as well. But then again I am not a vet and I wouldn't want to be one.  Dealing with humans was tough enough.

Sending loving thoughts and well wishes your way.

Thankyou @bondie. I will know today. praying no transfusions. expensive and traumatizing for sure. I don't know how much of that I would put her through honestly. I guess it depends on how long each transfusion would last. I have a lot of questions about them, but hopefully it will be unnecessary, she seems to be responding pretty good to the new meds. Her little poopies have firmed up and she seems to be breathing better. I will update today.

So I just got back from the Vet with Haley. The meds seem to be working. Her platlet count is 15,000 today, it was only 2000 last week. It should be 148,000 at the low end, so she is still critial for bleeding out if she gets any kind of trauma. but her body is producing the platlets so I am very hopeful.

She hates the vet now though. they've been taking blood ever week for almost 3 months now. Poor little thing. It's all very traumatizing and see doesn't understand.

But it is good news.

-I'm a worried mother.

Thanks for the update  @Silvergirl555 Haley is a brave wee girl and you are a great (albeit worried) mother. It’s encouraging to hear there’s been some improvement. Praying it continues, for both your sakes! Sending love from Scotland!

She is a brave and cute dog. And you are a brave mother as well...
But that is a significant rise in 1 week. So keep up what ever you both are doing! I bet the vet would be hoping for that rise again next week. I got my fingers crossed. Soft chew toys. NO sticks. Sorry hun. Rolling Eyes
And lots of love I am sure is required.
I love you

Fingers crossed for Haley's continued improvement, poor little girl. It's awful when you can't explain that the treatment is for her good, all she know is that she hates it. Family pets - Page 6 1f63f

She seems to be in good spirits most of the time. She is sleeping a lot. I think her little body is trying to make all those good blood platlets. at least that is what I tell myself

Just a little update
I've been "chatting" to @Silvergirl555 , and she reports that Haley is doing well on her new meds. Her blood is back to normal and she's happy. Yay!

That's great news, it's awful when it's a pet that is sick when they can't tell you exactly what's wrong and why it hurts. They are family and we do love them
